AMIC110: SPI for BOOT ROM

Hi Support Team,

Our customer is using SPI Flash: S25FL064LABNFI043 for the Boot ROM on the customer's AMIC110-equipped board. Due to concerns about its end-of-life (EOL), would it be acceptable to use W25Q64JVXGI as a replacement?
We believe it meets the hardware requirements, but please let us know if there is any performance data or concerns regarding this alternative.

Best Regards,
Kanae

  • Hello Kanae,

Both SPI NOR Flash memories W25Q64JVXGI and the older S25FL064LABNFI043 seem to meet the requirements of the AM3354 ROM loader SPI boot mode:

I have the understanding that in 1-bit Standard or dual (non-ROM loader) I/O SPI mode they should be both accessible through the AM3354 McSPI interface. TI does not maintain a memory vendor white list and does not have different performance benchmarks for different NOR flash memory vendors. Also, the AM335x EVM does NOT use  SPI Flash memory (in particular W25Q64JVXCGI)  for booting. Therefore I can not give any recommendations to use W25Q64JVXGI  or another one to replace the older one that the customer uses.

    Thanks for your understanding !

    Kind Regards,
