AM623: Inquiry regarding AM6231 BOOT Mode Signaling Differences

Part Number: AM623

Hi Expert,

I have a question regarding the BOOT mode of the AM6231. When no SD card is connected, the system defaults to booting from the eMMC.

I would like to understand the differences in signal communication when Bit 3 is toggled between ON and OFF, specifically in the scenario where both settings still result in a successful eMMC boot.

Thanks

Daniel

  • Hello Daniel,

Thank you for your query and Happy New Year !

"I have a question regarding the BOOT mode of the AM6231. When no SD card is connected, the system defaults to booting from the eMMC."

From your above statement I understand that  "MMCSD SD Card Boot" is your currently selected primary boot mode and "MMCSD eMMC Boot" is your currently selected backup boot mode. Please consider that in your use case the BOOTMODE Bit 3 only impacts the SD Card - the primary boot interface behavior. It will NOT impact the eMMC - the secondary boot interface behavior. For more info, please refer to the Section, BOOTMODE Pin Mapping / Subsections: Primary Boot Mode Selection and Configuration as well as Subsection, Backup Boot Mode Selection and Configuration of the AM62x TRM.

I would like to understand the differences in signal communication when Bit 3 is toggled between ON and OFF, specifically in the scenario where both settings still result in a successful eMMC boot.

In case that a SD Card is NOT detected by ROM code upon boot, regardless of BIT3=ON/OFF, the only possibility defined in AM623 ROM  will be to boot from the eMMC Flash User-defined area (UDA) in Filesystem mode. A successful boot from the eMMC means that the ROM boot image is located in the UDA area of your eMMC. For the eMMC Bootloader behavior please refer to the Section, Boot Modes/ Subsection: eMMC Boot and Subsection, eMMC Bootloader Operation of the AM62x TRM.

I hope this answers your questions !

    Thanks

    Kind Regards,
