EZSDK DM816x - 5.03.01.15 - mmcblk0: error

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP

Hi Everyone,

I downloaded "ezsdk_dm816x-evm_5_03_01_15_setuplinux" and ran mksdboot.sh from the package to create a bootable SDCard. When I boot up the EVM board (816x/389x EVM Rev G) using the SDCard, I always got the mmcblk0 error. Below is a log from the serial output.

Please help.

  • I am experiencing the same problem, also have the revision G board. I started out by trying to revert to an older revision of the SDK, but no change, still the mmcblk0 errors. Then I found another SD card, actually the very same type (Sandisk 8GB / same speed & type) as the one that came with the EVM, and tried flashing this in the same way, and it solved the bootup problem. (!)

However, when some demos are running, i.e.x the Gstreamer apps, then the mmcblk0 errors re-appears when the app is reading the mpeg streams from the card.

I have not investigated this further, but it seems to be a timing issue. I will try with other cards as well. I have checked the content of both cards with a disc tool, and they seem to be okay, and a binary file compare looks good.

  • Hi,

Are you seeing the MMC errors with the SD Card that's shipped with the EVM kit or is it a different MMC card? Also what is the speed classification of the card? We recommend having atleast a class 10 MMC card as that is required to run the video demos from SD Card.

  • I used the same SD Card that was shipped with the EVM. It didn't have any error with the preloaded SDK (older than 5.3.1.15)

  • I have tested a few cards so far:

    1) The one that came with the EVM, it is a Sandisk 8GB, class 10. It worked with the preloaded files, but fails as described by the thread starter.

    2) Another Sandisk "Ultra" 8GB, class 10. This card works in bootup, but same mmcblk0 errors at the video sample playback.

    3) Sandisk "standard" 8GB, class 4, This card works in bootup, and also with the video playback, but frames are lost, due to its speed. But does not give mmclk0 errors.

    4) Sandisk "Extreme Pro", UHC1 class ~ class 10, This card works in boot  but gives same mmcblk0 errors at the video sample playback.

All cards have been programmed in the same way, with the blue (usb) card reader/writer that came with the EVM, same writing method ( mskdboot.sh) for them all. Have also tried another usb MMC/SDHC programmer, same results.

So basically, the "slowest" card in my little test does work the best. But is a little to slow for the video sample playback. But it never results in the mmcblk0 (110) error.

  • Is there any more information or resolution on this??

I have the same problem using the card supplied with the board.

Are we just attributing this to a bad cards and that is the end of it?

I would like to use the capture example for our vetting process.
I realize this labeled an "alpha" release but it should at least boot, I would think.

PS I suppose it doesn't matter so much. It appears that the tftpboot works OK for now.

  • I ended up using the tftpbooting, too. It was more convenient anyway.

I still haven't been able to run the capture example. It doesn't show anything on the display.

  • hi all

Is there any more information or resolution on this??

I have the same problem using the card supplied with the board.

    Please help.

  • I also have the same problem.Coulde anyone solve the problem?

  • If only for development, you can use tftpboot. You should put only 3 files on the SDCard: MLO, uboot, boot.scr. The rest of the boot-up should be over tftp.

  • Thanks for your replay! However ,when I removed my sd card, the problem just happend. How to solve this problem?

  • Do you have to remove the SDCard. u-boot on the SDCard will load the Linux kernel (uImage) over tftp.

  • OK.My problem seems to be a little difference with the above problem.I will write a new post later.
