AM67A: PCIe BAR allocation failure

Hi Dears,

I am working on a custom embedded development board using a TI AM67A SoC. The board provides a PCIe Gen3 x1 interface. I connected a PCIe-to-HDMI module:

- PCIe to HDMI Module: EGPV-1101-C1
- Driver: compiled from source (“smifb2”)
- Module PCIe support: PCIe 2.0 x2

However, I am encountering a PCIe enumeration / resource allocation issue during boot. The important part of the kernel log is below:

It looks like the system cannot allocate enough PCIe MMIO space for the device BARs (especially BAR0 requiring 0x10000000).

I am sharing the full `lspci` and `dmesg` outputs below for reference.

Could you please advise what could be causing this BAR assignment failure, and what configuration changes (device tree / kernel config / PCIe window sizing / bootargs, etc.) I should check to resolve it?

    Which Processor SDK version do you run on AM67A?

    Can you reproduce the problem on the AM67A EVM with the prebuilt Linux in the Processor SDK?

    EGPV-1101 is an M.2 to single HDMI converter, but AM67A EVM has no M.2 interface.

    Do you see the similar BAR error messages if  you plug this M.2 card into a Linux computer with a similar kernel version as that you run on AM67A?

    I built the smifb2 driver using the TI supplied SDK ti-processor-sdk-linux-edgeai-j722s-evm-11_00_00_08-Linux-x86-Install.bin and tested it on the J722SXH01EVM development board.

    After installing the module, I load it with modprobe smifb.

    I previously followed the same procedure on an Ubuntu 22 x86 host system without any issues. However, on this setup I am encountering a similar problem to one I reported earlier.

    From the logs it looks like PCIe BAR memory allocation is failing with multiple "can't assign; no space" errors, and the failure occurs during the smi_pci_probe phase of the smifb driver.

    The log shows kernel crashes in the smifb driver, not sure if it is indirectly caused by the BAR mapping failure, but at least the driver shouldn't crash the kernel.

    You might need to fix the driver crash problem first, I am going to look into the BAR mapping failure next week. I will out of office for the rest of the week.
