AM6442: Query about AM64 Ethernet boot

Hi

Customer are designing their architecture based on AM64, and considering the Ethernet boot to flash boot image into eMMC. 

So they are checking below questions:

If they connect the CPSW with an external Switch silicon, can they use the Ethernet Boot without any restriction? Any ROM code limitation about this, like CPSW without switch can be supported, but with switch is not?

    Hi Zekun,

    There is an errata with the AM64x platform which prevents the use of Ethernet as a boot media. The work around for this errata is to issue a reset to CPSW, which is possible only via SBL. So, if the customer wants to flash an example to eMMC while the SBL is already present, then we can opt for flashing through Ethernet. But using it as the only boot mode is not suggested, at least for production. 

    There is a customer who used it during their development cycle, but we currently don't have a confirmed use of Ethernet boot mode for production.

    Please let me know if any more details are required in this front. We will be able to help you with possible options if they are ok to load SBL using any alternate media, and using ethernet for the rest of the applications

    Thanks for reply. So SD card may be the best solution for the boot and flash image into EMMC.
