AM6442: DEBUG and BOOT Option UART

Part Number: AM6442

Hi Ti Team,

I would like to confirm which UART port of AM6442 can be used for Boot Option and as debug UART

Our architecture require seperate UART for Debug and seperate UART  Boot option, is it possible with AM6442?

  • Hi Sandra,

UART0 is the UART used by ROM code to boot SBL. Please refer to TRM:

Rest of the UARTs are available for use to Software (if my understanding for "Debug UART" is correct)

    Regards,

    Stan

  • Thanks for the reply..

I can see UART0 for MAIn domain and also For MCU domain.

Would like to confirm whether you are indicating Man domain UART?

Also i would like to know whether this UART0 can be shared with/ interfaced with other devices once booting is completed thru is UART0

  • Hi Sandra,

ROM code is polling the main domain UART0 when selected to boot from UART.

Yes, once ROM has loaded a bootloader from UART0, UART0 becomes available to software. Please note that ROM will not perform any steps to de-initalize the UART peripheral, clocks, and pin mux. That is, UART software must not rely on register reset values and must configure everything as required.  Just wanted to highlight this fact, I think this is not a real limitation.

    Regards,
