AM62P: AM62P interface with 5g

Hi,

I am currently in the process of designing a custom hardware board based on the AM62P processor. As part of this design, I would like to integrate a SIM card holder and enable 5G cellular connectivity to provide internet access to the system.

I would like to inquire whether this is feasible with the AM62P platform, and if so, I would greatly appreciate your guidance on the recommended approach. Specifically, I am looking for information on:

The suggested hardware architecture for adding 5G cellular connectivity
Interface options between the AM62P and the 5G modem (such as PCIe, USB, etc.)
Design considerations for SIM integration, power supply, RF, and antenna routing
Any reference designs, application notes, or recommended 5G modules compatible with this platform
Software/driver considerations for enabling and managing the cellular connection

Is there a 5g solution that you have in mind.

AM62P does not support PCIe

You can use MMC2 for SDIO interface or USB interface.

In vase you have a block diagram, please share the same.

Hi,

I don't have anything in mind as of now. Our idea was to use 5G sim and use 5G to access the internet on the chip. Is there any idea you could provide us to use it on the board? Is it possible ? Mmc2 sdio is for wireless lan(wifi) right?

Could you provide an idea for interfacing with sim holder and which ic might be supported by am62p for the same too?

We are currently evaluating solutions to interface a SIM card with our processor in our Android-based automotive system. Our intended architecture involves the SIM card connecting to a communication chip, which in turn would interface with our main processor.

However, our processor does not provide a PCIe or USB 3.0 interface. We are already using the MMC2 SDIO interface for the Wi-Fi module, and therefore are exploring alternative connectivity options for the cellular/SIM interface.

In this context, we would appreciate your guidance on the following:

Is it feasible to achieve a reliable SIM interface using USB 2.0 with an appropriate cellular communication chip? If so, could you suggest suitable chip options that support this configuration?
Alternatively, kindly advise on any other recommended interfaces or chipset solutions that would enable communication between the SIM and our processor, given the limitations of our available interfaces.

We are seeking both technical insight and recommendation on how best to proceed with this requirement.We plan to achieve 5G internet speed with this.

I assume you are looking to interface the module using USB2 interface of the SOC.

This should be feasible.

We do not have any reference implementation.

The USB2 can be configured as Host or device.

Yes if possible could you suggest a chip which can be used , we are planning to use USB 2.0 only for communication with processor.
