H264: minimum resolution

Hello!

I use encoder 2.30.00.3.
From SPRUEU9B (H.264 Base/Main/Hight Profile Encoder for DM365/DM368 User's Giude June 2011) :

Version 02.00.00.xx also supports version 1.1 standard mode as a
backward compatible option. This can be enabled by setting
encodingPreset = XDM_USER_DEFINED and encQuality = 0/1. It
enables application that needs low-resolution encoding, lesser EDMA
channels or some specific tools like perceptual rate control.
Feature     Version 1.1 - Gen 1       Version 2.0 - Platinum
Resolution Min - 128 x 96            Min - 320 x 128
            Max - 2k x 2k             Max - Current (2k x 2k)

Question - if I work with resolution 160x1024 need I use version 1.1 or I can use Platinum?

Hi Kirill,

You can use platinum codec for 160x1024 resolution, you need to use backward compatible mode by setting encodingPreset = XDM_USER_DEFINED and encQuality = 0/1.

Since your input width is less than 320, you should use version 1.1 backward compatible mode

Ok, If input height is less 128 I must use version 1.1 backward, right?

Yes, If the input width is less than 320 or if input height is less than 128, you have to use version 1.1 mode.

Can I ask what is the use case for 160X1024 video?

Our camera must have line and pixel binning, 160x1024 is a 8x column binning for 1 Mpx (1280x1024).
