Internal program memory / flash

Hi,

I was looking at the C6000 DSP family ( C64x and C67x ) and I can't find a DSP that has built in program / flash memory. Is it something that doesn't exist anymore in this family? Do I need to look at the C2000 family for this feature?

Thanks!

  • Mosin,

Texas Instruments offers a wide variety of processors for a wide variety of applications. On TI.com under the Products heading, click on Processors to see a quick summary of all the available families of processors. Also on TI.com click on any of the items under Applications (and click again after that) to get some interesting ideas for implementations using different processors and other semiconductors offered by Texas Instruments.

The C6000 family has always been about speed. Embedded Flash is about convenience. From what I can remember, we have never embedded Flash in our C6000 products, but if we did a long time ago please forgive my poor memory. We do not offer an embedded Flash option for our 1ns instruction cycle processors today.

Depending on your application, there could be MSP430 devices that would work for you, or Stellaris ARM devices, or C2000, or others that you find on that list of processors.

If your application requires a 1GHz or faster processor, you need external Flash perhaps even a serial I2C or SPI flash for booting.

If your application requires a microcontroller with lots of GPIOs and an LCD controller, then there might be an embedded Flash available in the Stellaris family.

    Happy hunting!

    Regards,
    RandyP
