AM62L: Support for MIPI CMD on AM62L

Part Number: AM62L

In the attached post it was mentioned that on the AM62L there is no support for MIPI CMD yet, is there any future plan to support CMD or will that not happen any time soon (or will it happen on a different Sitara MPU)?

  • Hi Omer Amir,

Regarding the MIPI DSI "Command" mode, which I think you refer to, there is nothing mentioned in the DSI Unsupported Features list of the latest AM62L TRM:

At the same time the AM62Lx TRM seem to have numerous hints (registers and sections) on available options to program the AM62Lx MIPI DSI controller in "Command" mode.

As well as some DIRECT_CMD programing interface registers:

    or this one:

I need to internally check if the mode has been tested and confirmed to be already operable on the AM62L (silicon rev. 1.1) or other SoCs (AM62Px). Please allow me some time to reach out to and discuss with our DSS DSI hardware and software experts. I hope I can get back to you with a feedback by end of the week.

    Thanks

    Best Regards

  • Hi Omer Amir,

    Sorry for my late reply.

Here is the the answer from our DSS / DSI hardware and software experts:

"The DSI controller supports the MIPI Command mode in hardware. We use the Command mode in software, only to send DCS commands for panel initialization in the beginning, and then start streaming via DSS in Video Mode. Note that DSS in Sitara platform can only operate in Video Mode, which means it will continuously keep streaming, and cannot be halted.

As can be seen in the AM62Lx TRM, what the current Sitara DSS lacks is the STALL Mode:

DSS cannot halt the stream midway, and hence this feature cannot be offered on current Sitara platforms."

I hope this helps clarify !

    Thanks

    Best Regards
