Does SK-AM64B support PRU ICSSG Ethernet using PSDK Linux 11.02.08.02? If so, how is it configured?

The documentation for PRU ICSSG Ethernet appears to support only TMDS64EVM.

k3-am642-evm-icssg1-dualemac.dtbo did not work for SK-AM64B.

I would like to test HSR and PRP using PRU ICSSG Ethernet on SK-AM64B.

Our customer wants to use gPTP with HSR and PRP on TMDS64EVM, but gPTP does not work after running the HSR/PRP offload.

By the way, we have two TMDS64EVMs, but they are currently broken due to power issues, so we would like to use SK-AM64B instead of TMDS64EVM.

Hello Daisuke-san,

We only support testing PRU Ethernet on the TMDS64EVM. The dualemac.dtbo file depends on a specific multiplexer that only exists on the TMDS64EVM. That EVM has 3 Ethernet ports: 1 for CPSW Ethernet, 1 for PRU Ethernet, and then the multiplexer is used to switch the third Ethernet port between CPSW and PRU Ethernet.

Could I get you to create a separate e2e thread about the gPTP with HSR and PRP on TMDS64EVM? I know the team is working on adding some new features to gigabit HSR/PRP with PRU offload. I cannot remember if PTP is currently supported, or still in development for a later SDK release.

For SK‑AM64B, the current PSDK Linux supports only standard Ethernet using CPSW and does not support any Ethernet protocols using PRU ICSSG, including the industrial Ethernet protocols described in the documents below, is that correct?

Question - does SK-AM64B support testing PRU Ethernet?

No, it only supports testing CPSW Ethernet. CPSW is a dedicated hardware peripheral, whereas PRU cores are programmable cores that can be used to implement Ethernet, among other things. That is why PRU cores are able to implement custom Ethernet protocols which would usually require an external ASIC, because the PRUs implement the protocol in software.

Question - can I test any Ethernet protocols over CPSW?

You can test any protocol where the work for the protocol can be done in Linux. For example, the PRUs allow Linux to offload the processing work to implement HSR/PRP from Linux, to the PRU cores. You can ALSO do HSR/PRP with CPSW, but now Linux needs to do all the processing.

Our customer will wait for the release of the next SDK 12.0 and will use it to test HSR/PRP (IEC 62439-3) + PTP (IEEE 1588/IEC 61588) on TMDS64EVM.
