Android application (SIP client) not using RJ45 as default network interface on OMAP EVM board running Android ginger bread 2.3

Hi,

We are usng OMAP EVM board running Android 2.3 ( prebuilt images TI-Android-GingerBread-2.3.4-DevKit-2.1.). The board has RJ45 ethernet interface and does not have a Wifi module. When SIP client application is run on the board, it does not attempt to use RJ45 network interface to register to SIP server. Tried with several SIP clients (SIPdemo, linphone, CSimple).It seems it seems it is not able to find network interface even though RJ45 interface is UP and SIP client is configured to use network interface other than Wifi/3G.

Any configuration available on Android ginger bread 2.3 to select/enable RJ45 ethernet as default network interface? suggestion would be helpful.

Hi Ananth,

We have not still integrated Ethernet F/W to Android layer in GingerBread. But Patches are available.

Can you quickly validate the Sip Demo in our Froyo DevKit which has Ethernet F/W.

Froyo DevKit is available at http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_tii/TI_Android_DevKit/02_02_00/index_FDS.html

Once you verify the Demos, we can point you to the Ethernet Patches.

Hi Arun,

Thanks for the response. We have already tried SIP demo on Froyo, it doesn't work as Froyo doesn't have SIP stack. So, we tried SIP demo on Gingerbread. RJ45 Ethernet link is up on Gingerbread. Many of the android applications are able to access RJ45 network interface. It is only that SIP client application is not able to access RJ45 network interface.

Can you try with the following patches

The following two patches are to be applied to frameworks/base:

3482.0001-Adding-Ethernet-Configuration-Manager.patch.txt

1425.0002-Adding-ethernet-status-icon.patch.txt

The following patch is to be applied to packages/apps/Settings:

5824.packages-apps-settings-0001-Adding-Ethernet-Configuration-Manager.patch.txt

Please note that we have not integrated these patches with our DevKit sources so far and so is not tested.

Hi,

I downloaded source from http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_tii/TI_Android_DevKit/TI_Android_GingerBread_2_3_4_DevKit_2_1/index_FDS.html

I applied the patches 3 patches you have provided. I came across a few compilation errors which I could resolve, I not able to pass through the below error while compiling rootfs. Kindly let me know if anything else is missing.

Error Message:

packages/apps/Settings/res/xml/settings.xml:36: error: Error: No resource found that matches the given name (at 'icon' with value '@drawable/ic_settings_ethernet').'

Just make an icon for it and stick it in your drawable folder, that's what it is asking for.
