Hello TI Experts,

We are using the TDA4VH88TGAALYRQ1 processor in our custom automotive design, and we also have the corresponding EVM for reference.

We have a question related to the power‑down requirements of the processor. Specifically, are there any recommendations for power hold‑up duration during shutdown? Additionally, is it acceptable to abruptly power off the processor while Linux is running, or is a graceful shutdown mandatory?

Could you please share your recommended approach along with any relevant application notes or documentation?

Hello John,

The SDK supports graceful shutdown from Linux. The Linux shuts down the processes then drivers calls ATF which eventually calls the MCU domain R5F, that executes the PMIC poweroff sequence.

My question is whether it is acceptable to abruptly turn off the power input.

If not, how long must the power be maintained (in seconds) to ensure a safe shutdown?

Is a safe shutdown recommended?

No issues even with abrupt turn. I will let our hardware expert confirm. I am looping in HW expert.

Hi,

The datasheet shows two options for power-down - Option 1 is the graceful PMIC controlled shutdown. Option 2 is the case where RESET is asserted first, and all rails are allowed to power down after 200us.
