AM62A-PET-CALC: Processors line and software migration between different SOCs

Part Number: AM62A-PET-CALC
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SK-AM62A-LP, SK-AM69, AM69A

Dear colleagues,

In our company we are working for creating the line of Industrial AI cameras product line. In this line we are going to create the solution from cost effective to high performance.

For cost effective devices we have choosen AM62A SOC (Sitara line). We have allready made the device prototype on the SK-AM62A-LP board and got promises results.

For high perforamnce solution we have tried to use AM69A SOC (Jacinto line). We have created a prototype on the SK-AM69

On the both platforms AM62A and AM69A we use Yocto Linux (5.0.3) with TI meta-layers. With Yocto 5.0.3 and PROCESSOR-SDK 11.X.X we have similar behaviour of AI functionality. PROCESSOR-SDK 11.X.X is EdgeAI based SDK. We can esily transfer our software from AM62A to AM69A and vice versa. For sure we are getting difference performance on AM62A and AM69A. But we keep the same business logic our application.

For example PROCESSOR-SDK 11.X.X for AM62A:

www.ti.com/.../11.01.07.05

For example PROCESSOR-SDK 11.X.X for AM69A:

www.ti.com/.../PROCESSOR-SDK-AM69A

Both of this SDK for AM62A and AM69A is EdgeAI based.

From local TI agent in Munich we got information that AM69A SOC will be EOL soon and we have to considering for our high performance AI cameras TDA4 SOC like www.ti.com/.../J784S4XEVM  . In general it's ok for us (AM69A has J784S4 architecture under the hood).

After look to www.ti.com/.../J784S4XEVM we have recognise that PROCESSOR SDK for AI based on the ADAS instead of EdgeAI. From our side it's clear why TDA4 line use ADAS based AI SDK. TDA4 was developed for Automotive applications.

From the topic:

https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/1630763/tda4vh-q1-launching-edgeai-test-application-failure

We have recognised that for launch EdgeAI we have to rebuild SDK and activate EdgeAI.

Anyway we have a big questions now:

  • What about future of EdgeAI support on the different platform? As we can see now AM62A support only EdgeAI. But modern SOC SDK use ADAS.
  • Should we change the AI models and busines logic of our application for migrate from AM62A (EdgeAI) to TDA4 line (ADAS) and vise versa TDA4->AM62A.
