TDA4VH-Q1: SERDES support question

Part Number: TDA4VH-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDA4VH

The TDA4VH-Q1 datasheet mentions support for 8 port SERDES. Are these 8 SERDES independent? Can customers install 8 Ethernet PHY externally?
Also, do these Ethernet interfaces correspond to Cortex A72 interfaces? Can it also be configured as an interface for MCU Cortex R5F? Thank you!

  • Jon,

I apologize for the delayed reply, somehow, I didn't get notified or missed it.

For the TDA4VH, there are 4 SERDES instance SERDES0, 1, 2 and 4. SERDES0 does not support Ethernet support.

Yes, you can have 8 external Eth PHYs and route the appropriate ports to the SERDES lanes to support them.

Note that the 10G is only supported on lanes 2/3 on CPSW ports 1 and 2. All have 1G/2.5G support. for QSGMII, you could route to one lane and internally it will assign the next 3 other ports for it.

SERDES is in the main domain and can be accessed with A72 or R5 cores.
