AM2432: MbedTLS version update

Part Number: AM2432
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM2434

Hi,
customer uses MCU+SDK v 11.01.00.19 but plan to migrate to v12.
They plan to build TLS support in their product using Lwip stack together with MbedTLS from MCU+SDK. The MCU+ integrated MbedTLS is v2.13.1 from 2018. Customer requests a newer version.
Are there any plans to upgrade the version in the upcoming future?
Using this old version in the product is a security concern also.

Also, do you have examples for hw accelerators integrations with the MbedTL. It seems that handshakes are rather slow without pka signing/verification acceleration.

Regards, Holger

  • Hi Holger,

Currently, there are no plans to migrate the MbedTLS to later versions. We have requirements filed for enabling the SA2UL offload for AM243x and AM62 platforms. Although, we don't have a timeline yet to make the HW offload available as part of SDK. Can you please provide details on which platform the customer is using?

    Thanks and regards,
    Teja.

  • Hi Teja,
customer uses MCU+ SDK for AM2434 and AM64424.

    > Currently, there are no plans to migrate the MbedTLS to later versions.
do you know why we there are no update plans and we stick for an old version?

    Regards, Holger

  • Hi Holger,

There has not been any customer pull for newer version of MbedTLS as of now. That is the reason this was not taken up as part of the roadmap.

What is the timeline that the customer is asking for the HW offload to be supported?

    Thanks and regards,
    Teja.

  • Hi Teja,

    > There has not been any customer pull for newer version of MbedTLS as of now.
That is a pitty. The new version has p
erformance and TLS handshake improvements and new methods to reduce memory footprints.
Customer will now try to update MbedTLS by themself. They already in development stage.

    Regards, Holger
