Hello,
We have a product based on the TDA4VM processor, with the power architecture implemented according to the PDN-0C design. Our customer board was developed using the TDA4VM Starter Kit (Rev. E2) as the primary hardware reference.
In some systems, we occasionally observe overcurrent events reported by the TPS65941213-Q1 PMIC on the VDD_CPU_AVS rail.
The following messages are logged:
tps6594 1-0048: Error IRQ trap reach ilim, overcurrent for BUCK2
tps6594 1-0048: Error IRQ trap reach ilim, overcurrent for BUCK1
tps6594 1-0048: Error IRQ trap reach ilim, overcurrent for BUCK2
tps6594 1-0048: Error IRQ trap reach ilim, overcurrent for BUCK3
tps6594 1-0048: Error IRQ trap reach ilim, overcurrent for BUCK1
tps6594 1-0048: Error IRQ trap reach ilim, overcurrent for BUCK2
We found several TI E2E forum discussions describing similar symptoms, although most of these reports are several years old and I'm not sure if there is a definitive resolution:
- TDA4VM: PMIC reports VDD_CPU overcurrent error - Processors forum - Processors - TI E2E support forums
- TPS6594-Q1: TPS6594-Q1 report current limit alert on Buck 1&2&3 output (VDD_CPU_AVS) - Power management forum - Power management - TI E2E support forums
- TDA4VM-Q1: overcurrent issue - Processors forum - Processors - TI E2E support forums
Could TI provide guidance on whether there are any recommended improvements or updates to the PDN-0C power design that help prevent these overcurrent indications? Additionally, is there a reference design or updated hardware implementation available that incorporates these recommendations?
Thanks.
