AM2434: AM2434: DP83822 phy driver

Part Number: AM2434
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG, DP83869, DP83826E

Hi Team,

I am using AM2434 for developing EtherNET/IP adapter application on custom board.

I am using example project ind_comms_sdk_am243x_2026_00_00_06\examples\industrial_comms\ethernetip_adapter_demo\profiles\generic_device\standard\rgmii\am243x-lp\r5fss0-0_freertos from the SDK ind_comms_sdk_am243x_2026_00_00_06

In example project DP83869 is used as phy but in our board we are using DP83822 as phy. We changed SYSCONFIG > ETHPHY(ICSS-EMAC) > CONFIG_ETHPHY0 > ETHPHY Device to CUSTOM and set Custom Device Name to DP83822, but the build failed.

We are trying by refering https://software-dl.ti.com/mcu-plus-sdk/esd/AM243X/latest/exports/docs/api_guide_am243x/enet_supported_phy_guide.html but not able to build.

We believe the reason is that ethphy_dp83822.c and ethphy_dp83822.h do not exist under mcu_plus_sdk/source/board/ethphy/icss_emac/ and available mcu_plus_sdk_am243x_12_00_00_26\source\board\ethphy\enet\rtos_drivers.
If you have ethphy_dp83822.c and ethphy_dp83822.h, please provide them.  And you could kindly guide me through the steps to implement the addition of phy DP83822.

Thanks,
Surabhi
  • Hi Surabhi,

The documentation that you are referring to is for PHY support and integration for ENET driver, for which DP83822 support exists and the PHY drivers are located in mcu_plus_sdk/source/board/ethphy/enet/rtos_drivers/src. But for ICSS_EMAC, the phy drivers are located in mcu_plus_sdk/source/board/ethphy/icss_emac as you pointed out correctly.

For enabling DP83822 support on ICSS_EMAC, you would have to follow the custom phy integration documentation for ICSS_EMAC, and you would need a driver compatible with its architecture.

Regarding the availability of icss_emac ethphy drivers for DP83822, I will have to check with our development team if they are available. Please expect a response on it in 2 working days.

Please let us know if you have any further queries.

    Thanks and regards,
    Teja.

  • Hi Teja,

Do you have any update on this?

    Best Regards,

    Madhurya

  • Hi Surabhi,

We do not have native support for DP83822 PHY for ICSS_EMAC, nor corresponding reference driver code. I am checking internally for documentation, and will shortly update you on the findings

    Thanks and regards,
    Teja.

  • Hi Tejas,
Which PHY's are supported on AM2434x for Ethernet and Ethercat apart from DP83869

    Best Regards,

    Madhurya

  • Hi Madhurya,

Apart from DP83869, we have support for DP83826e PHY as part of standard MCU+ SDK and Industrial Comms SDK for AM243x.

    Thanks and regards,
    Teja.

  • Hi Teja,

That's good to hear. Do you have any demo available to test DP83826e and AM243x Industrial Comms stack?

    Best Regards,

    Madhurya

  • Hi Madhurya,

The examples available in the SDK are PHY agnostic. You would have to update the sysconfig to use the DP83826e PHY instead of the existing DP83869 PHY. The corresponding drivers are already available in the SDK.

    Thanks and regards,
    Teja.

  • Hi Teja,

Do you have any migration document which we can refer to add phy DP83826e drivers in our example project ind_comms_sdk_am243x_2026_00_00_06\examples\industrial_comms\ethernetip_adapter_demo\profiles\generic_device\standard\rgmii\am243x-lp\r5fss0-0_freertos from the SDK ind_comms_sdk_am243x_2026_00_00_06.

    Thanks,

    Surabhi

  • Hi Surabhi,

You can change the ETHPHY (ICSS-EMAC) in sysconfig GUI in the following path:

    Sysconfig GUI: EthPHY (ICSS-EMAC) > ETHPHY Device > DP83826e

You can update this and that should enable the PHY binding.

    Thanks and regards,
    Teja.
