Hi Team,

 

We followed the procedure provided for compiling the 11.x RT kernel:

 

Cloned the ti-linux-kernel repository and checked out the origin/ti-linux-6.12.y-cicd branch.

Set up the cross-compilation environment as described in Section 3.2.1.3.1 ("Setup Cross Compile Environment") of the Kernel User's Guide.

Downloaded the Processor SDK Linux 11.x and configured the build environment using the ARM toolchain.

Attempted to configure and compile the kernel using the custom configuration file  tisdk_am437x-evm-rt_defconfig

During the kernel compilation process, we encountered build errors and were unable to complete the build successfully.

we are using gcc-arm-8.3-2019.03-x86_64-arm-linux-gnueabihf arm toolchina

For reference, we followed the procedures documented in the Processor SDK Linux User's Guide:

Could you please review the attached build log and help identify the root cause of the compilation failure? Kindly let us know if there are any compatibility requirements related to the toolchain version, kernel branch, or configuration file that we should verify.

    I tried building RT Linux on AM437x 11.2 SDK on my end and I was able to successfully replicate the build environment on my side using the exact TI Processor SDK installer. The compilation completed without any errors.
    Please find the exact step-by-step procedure and environment variables I used below to help you verify your local setup.

    1. Install Prerequisites & Host Dependencies

    Before building, ensure your host system has all the necessary development packages and libraries installed
    sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libgmp-dev libmpc-dev libmpfr-dev flex bison

    2. SDK Installation

    Ensure you are using the correct SDK installer downloaded from the TI.com dr-download.ti.com/.../ti-processor-sdk-linux-am437x-evm-11.02.05.02-Linux-x86-Install.bin 

    3. Environment Setup

    Export the following environment variables to correctly route your 32-bit cross-compiler and sysroot paths:
    # Update this path to match your local SDK installation directory
export SDK_INSTALL_DIR="/home/danish/ti-processor-sdk-linux-am437x-evm-11.02.05.02"

# Configure toolchain and sysroot paths
export CROSS_COMPILE_32="${SDK_INSTALL_DIR}/linux-devkit/sysroots/x86_64-arago-linux/usr/bin/arm-oe-linux-gnueabi/arm-oe-linux-gnueabi-"

    4. Build Commands

    Clean your workspace of previous build artifacts before building the kernel and its modules:
    # Clean the source tree
make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE="$CROSS_COMPILE_32" distclean

# (Optional) Apply defconfig if needed, for example:
# make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE="$CROSS_COMPILE_32" am43xx_evm_defconfig

# Build the kernel images and modules
make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE="$CROSS_COMPILE_32" zImage modules
    Following these steps, the kernel images (Image and zImage) along with all peripheral modules compile successfully.
    Please try re-running the process starting with the dependency installation. If you still encounter failures.

    Danish is also installing the required dependencies at the beginning.

    Some of which seem missing in your setup.

    11.02.08.02 should build after installing the dependencies correctly. This is not an SDK version issue, rather a missing dependency issue.
