AM62A7: Test utility to increase the CPU and DSP load to increase power consumption

Hi,

We are performing the stress testing on our device which is based on the AM62A7 processor. Our aim is to provide the stress on the CPU and DSP and increase the power consumption on the AM62A7 processor.

We have tried to use the "vx_app_load_test.out" to provide load on the C7x.

/opt/vision_apps/vx_app_load_test.out 2 80 60

Above command will provide the 80% load on the C7x. But this utility doesn't excersize the MMA (matrix multiply accelerator) and only loads the scalar/vector of C7x pipeline. If MMA of C7x is used then only it consumes more power.

So, there any other utilty for C7x to which can provide load on MMA and increase power consumption?

Providing the load on the CPU doesn't increase the power consumption. So, Is there any other utility available to excersize the power consumption of the board?

Hi Anshu,

I have checked reference you have provided. Unfortunately, we have same problem as user mentioned in that thread. This is our custom board based on the AM62A7 processor and we don't have access to either JTAG or Micro USB to access the C7x and only have remoteproc interface. So, It won't be possible to use CCS to load program mentioned in the thread to stress the C7x-MMA.

Also, we want to use C7x-MMA stressing utility in the field if required. So, Is there any other utility or program that can be loaded on C7x core using remoteproc interface in linux. That will be more convenient for our use case.

I found above TI thread where developer is running the custom application on C7x core using the remoteproc interface and that increased the current consumption by 80mA. But there is no reference of the full application. Is there any such application/demo example available in the any of the TI SDK that we can use to increase the power consumption of the board?

We can use the binary (.out file) that was provided in this thread: RE: AM62A7-Q1: Is there a software/model to stress the C7x?

Copy this file into the Linux filesystem path /lib/firmware/ti-ipc as shown here: https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?isTheia=false&node=A__Acwk-7uipItBzVb65sUM.w__AM62A-ACADEMY__WeZ9SsL__LATEST

Then when Linux has booted, you can stop the C7x core. Then you can create a soft link to from the C7x firmware to the new one as shown here: https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?isTheia=false&node=A__Acwk-7uipItBzVb65sUM.w__AM62A-ACADEMY__WeZ9SsL__LATEST

After the soft link, bring up the C7x and it should use this new firmware.

Please try this and let us know if it worked.
