Unable to install or use the new Appro DM8127 IPNC 2.0.0 release

I've been working with the DM8127 IPNC RDK for over a month now. I've most recently been using Appro Beta Release 1.8.0 and it works fairly well. Yesterday I downloaded release 2.0.0 from the Appro FTP site. The release was downloaded as a single file (approximately 1.1 GBytes) named "GA_Release_2.0.0.tar.gz". I can un-tar this file into a tree of 3 directories and 4 files as follows:

Appro\Appro_2A_IPNC_DM812x_2.0.0.tar.gz   (407 KB)

Open\Open_src_IPNC_DM812x_2.0.0.tar.gz   (340 MB)

Private\PrivateTI_IPNC_DM812x-2.0.0-Setup.bin   (833 MB)

Release_Notes_IPNC_DM812x.pdf   (121 KB)

In the previous Appro releases (1.4.0, 1.5.0, and 1.8.0), the file in the "Private" directory had a ".exe" extension and was run-able under WIndows (I've been using WIndows 7 64-bit). When run, it would simply extract another zip file (NOTE: In the previous releases, the files in the other 2 directories were also zip files.) Finally all 3 of the zip files needed to be unzipped over top of each other to create a release installation tree.

If you look closely, the new Appro release (GA Release 2.0.0) now uses g-zipped tar-balls in the "Appro" and "Open" directories (which is not a problem). But the file in "Private" directory now ends with a ".bin" file extension. It does not seem to be run-able under Windows or Linux. It does not get recognised by any file archiving / compressing utility I've tried under Windows or Linux.

I have no idea how to extract / install the file "PrivateTI_IPNC_DM812x-2.0.0-Setup.bin". And therefore I can't make use of the new improved release until this issue is resolved. Is there something I'm missing? If not, how is anyone else able to use this release?

I will be copying this email and sending it to Appro shortly. But I'm guessing I'll get a quicker response here. Thanks!

  • OK, I solved my own problem.

Actually that file IS run-able under Linux. And it simply extracts another g-zipped tar-ball. So Windows doesn't have to be used at all (unlike the installation procedure for all the prior releases).

I really wish Appro (TI?) would make their documentation more explicit and accurate (i.e. - If the installation procedure needs to be done in Linux rather than Windows, don't show backslashes in all the pathnames!).

  • Thanks Allen for your inputs and Nice to hear that installation is fine now.

We will correct in documentation by using the right slashes to make it more Linux style in future release.

Actually in previous releases, it was more on Windows installation  and there were customer requests that the use windows PC was required and this needs to be avoided

So we moved all the entire installation to Linux based installation this release. henceforth we will use this linux based one

  • Hi  Allen black

Can you tell me Appro FTP site ? Thanks

  • Hi Xiaofeng,

The Appro FTP site can be found at:

    ftp.appropho.com

Of course you need a username and password to access it (which you can get from them assuming you've purchased one of their RDKs)... The most current release for the DM8127 IPNC is GA Release 3.0.0...

    Regards,

    Allen
