Issue with Opening USB port on BeagleBoard-xm running Gingerbread pre-built image

I'm new to beagleboard and running gingerbread pre-built image. I need to create new rule under udev for allowing some USB devices to be able to open the port. Also, I need to make change to init.rc so that this solution is permanent. Can somebody help me since neither I could find udev nor init.rc this pre-built image? - kjs

Hi,

You can download prebuilt image from below release page.

http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_tii/TI_Android_DevKit/TI_Android_GingerBread_2_3_4_DevKit_2_1/index_FDS.html

Once you flash prebuilt image on SD card, you will see init.rc file in rootfs partition of SD card.

In Android source code init.rc file is located in <android source path>/device/ti/beagleboard directory.

Thanks Pankaj... That is correct the "init.rc" is found there.

Also, can you please suggest how can I re-build the image with "udev" so that I can allow only limited USB devices based on PID/VID and get them required R/W permission.

Hi Kiranjeet,

It looks like this is the application problem now.

This has nothing to do with device node permissions. /var/tcstore is not a standard Android filesystem.This is the applications responsibility to create this directory.

My be you can manually create this directory and try running app again.

Hi Pankaj,

Thanks for your support. Actually, I was able to succesfully run the application last day. Next thing is to understand how to make the required changes to init.rc so that it allows the intended device access when it is rebooted.

Hi Kiranjeet,

I am glad to here that you got it working.

It you are plugging module after system bootup then you can try by adding following lines in init.rc

on device-added-<device node path>

chmod 777 <device node>
