AM62P: AM62P Display Information

Hi Roshan,
AM62P has 2x DSS moudules.
Assuming you are running LVDS+(DPI->DP) from DSS0 and (DSI->eDP) from DSS1, and also assuming that you are using weston, DSS0 entities will run in extended moded and DSS1 entity will be independent of it. You can easily incorporate DSS1 with DSS0 in weston config to operate all 3 in extended mode.

Now, if you wish to have them operate in cloned/mirror mode, it will be entirely on how the software graphics stack handles it. Looping in the graphics expert to help you better.

Thank you for your response. Could you please clarify how the display outputs are configured and handled in the latest TI Linux SDK?

With reference to the evaluation board, my understanding is that it supports the following display interfaces:

• LVDS output
• DPI output routed through the Si9022 to provide HDMI output
• MIPI DSI output

Could you please confirm whether these outputs operate in extended display mode or clone (mirroring) mode in the evaluation board configuration?

Additionally, I would appreciate it if you could clarify how these display interfaces are managed in the latest TI Linux SDK and the Android SDK, particularly whether multiple outputs can operate simultaneously and independently or whether they are limited to displaying the same content.

Yes, your understanding of the display interfaces are correct, for more information on the display subsystem and how the displays are managed please take a look at the SDK documentation here: https://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-linux/esd/AM62PX/12_01_00_05_03/exports/docs/linux/Foundational_Components/Kernel/Kernel_Drivers/Display/DSS7.html#supported-features. Additionally, I will loop in the Android SDK expert to further comment on any display info on that side. For the Linux SDK, by default it operates in extended mode.

I have one additional question regarding the display interface.

Is it possible to use the DPI output directly, without using the Si9022 chip?

If this is possible, apart from the PCLK signal, could you please clarify whether an EXTPCLKIN signal is also required? According to the pin multiplexing options, the GPMC0_WAIT1 pin can be configured for this signal.

Could you please explain the purpose of the EXTPCLKIN signal

Hi Roshan,
This pin can be used to drive the DSS VP2 (DPI output) with external clock (upto 165MHz). With the internal PLL, you cannot go lower than 6.25 MHz as of today, but with external clock, you may be able to, but this hasn't been tested yet.

Yes, you can use DPI with Sii902 chip as well, but you may need a custom board for that to be able to expose the pins.
