AM6442: Processor SDK Linux AM64x: Why the Schmitt trigger became enabled by default starting with SDK12?

Part Number: AM6442

Hello exparts,

Having updated the pinctrl configuration from SDK9 to SDK12, We noticed that a flag had been added to the PIN_INPUT settings to enable the Schmitt trigger.
Could you please explain the relevant commit message in the ti-linux-kernel repository to help us understand the reason for this addition?

arm64: dts: ti: k3-pinctrl: Enable Schmitt Trigger by default · TexasInstruments/ti-linux-kernel@5b27212

  • We understand that the following four points are the main reasons for this change. Is this correct? If there are any supporting documents, please let us know.
    • The Schmitt trigger is enabled by default in the hardware power-on reset (PoR) settings.
    • When the Schmitt trigger is disabled, strict requirements apply to the slew rate of the input signal.
    • It has been confirmed that, even in the absence of noise, spurious interrupts can occur on the GPIO if these requirements are not met.
    • Since there are no clear benefits to disabling the Schmitt trigger, it is enabled by default.
  • Can we assume that the content of this commit message represents TI’s official position?

Regards,

Ito
