DM3730 EVM - Get RS-232 ouput but no input

Dear Support:

I am using a DM3730 EVM and using SDK5.03.02.00  and built and created an SD card for the EVM to boot-up from and everything worked out ok except that it would not receive any input from the serial port cable either during initial boot-up before loading the kernel or during the log-in after booting the kernel.  I was getting text displayed on my console using minicom with no issues - it just wouldn't received anything I typed in from the keyboard. 

I then took this same cable and plugged it into my DM8148 and DM8168 EVMs and no issues - receive and transmit were working fine over the serial cable so I know it's not the cable or the PC.  I then tried another DM3730 EVM and had the same exact problem - was getting console output using minicom, but it would not take anything I typed in from the keyboard either before or after booting up the kernel.  I followed the directions on the Quick Start Guide and all jumpers are as indicated in this documentation.  Does anyone know what could cause this problem?  Strange that I would get this same problem on 2 different DM3730 EVMs - please advise.

    Dear Support:

    Well now this is strange.  I thought I would go ahead and plug in the SD card that comes with the EVM and see if it had the same problem and indeed it did.  Then I switched over from using minicom on my Lnux PC to using TeraTerm on my Windows PC and the RS-232 output from the EVM worked fine - it would respond to characters typed on my keyboard from before and after the kernel boot-up.  Any idea as to what is going on with the settings with this EVM causing me to have a problem with it responding to keyboard entry from my Linux PC using minicom, but it would respond just fine when using TeraTerm on my Windows PC.  If I use this same cable and Linux PC and plug it into my DM8148 and DM8168 EVMs, they respond to keyboard entry just fine - something peculiar with using minicom when using my DM3730 EVM.  Any ideas as to what may be the problem?

    Tim,

    Have you disabled hardware flow control on the Linux/minicom side? The DM8148 board has hardware flow control connected (looped-back or fully configured, I'm not sure which) but other eval kits are 3-wire only.

    TeraTerm appears to default to no flow control so it works.

    Hi Tim,

    I am also facing same issue with DM3730, but mine seems to complex in the sense that it is neither working with minicom on Linux nor with teraterm on Windows PC. I have checked Hardware Flowcontrol option in both minicom and teraterm and they are not set (or set to NONE). Currently I am booting the board in TFTP configuration and it seems to get stuck before login prompt (It is not printing login prompt on the serial terminal).

    Like yours, DM8148 EVM is booting up properly in minicom & teraterm. Infact, my DM3730 EVM used to work fine earlier and then suddenly all these issues cropped up. I am not able to find the root cause of the issue.And, because of  this issue with serial terminal (minicom & teraterm), I am not able to erase my NAND memory so that I can rewrite again. Please help me with this issue ASAP.
