speech codec vs audio codec??

hi all

i am a new user of dm365

when i study the visa of  "Codec Engine",

(VISA    :    video       img     speech          audio )

I want to know what's the difference between 'speech codec' and 'audio codec'~

help please

thanks

  • Speech codecs are for compressing voice signal. They operate typically at lower bit rate and lower sampling frequency(like 8kHz, 16kHz). Typical speech codecs are G,72x series, GSM codecs, EVRC etc. Typically, speech codecs do not have good compreformance(quality) for musical content.

Audio codecs are used predominently for compressing the music(eg: MP3, AAC, WMA, DTS etc). These audio codecs typically operate at higher sampling rates(44.1kHz, 48kHz etc) and also at much higher bir rares compared to speech codecs.
