DM36x and AutoFocus Engine

Hi,

I'm planning to buy a DM3xx based board for our current project which needs to calculate the sharpness of the image being captured by the camera. A VGA or a 1.3M camera resolution will be sufficient for our requirements.

I think the Auto Focus engine inside the Hardware 3A (H3A) module should be able to provide us the needed data for the sharpness calculation since the more focused the image, the sharper the image. So now I would like to find out:

  • What type of board should I get --365? 368? From what I have seen from other posts,  the H3A AF is not present in DM368 -- is this true?
  • Is Leopard board a good dev board to use for this project?
  • Do I have to sign up an NDA with our sales rep in order to get the AF data format? I have seen this in this post: --http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/davinci_digital_media_processors/f/100/t/35140.aspx
  • Does the linux driver fully support the AutoFocus engine? Are there relevant sample apps in the SDK which I can use as a reference for this?

Thanks in advance!

  • I think i can help you.

  • Ria,

In general, yes, you'd need to sign an NDA with TI to get access to detailed documentation of the AF engine. To get started, you can purchase DM365 + sensor boards from our 3rd party partner Leopard Imaging: https://www.leopardimaging.com/. They provide both HW and SW for AF.

Both DM365 and DM368 support AF.

  • Hi, Xiangdong,

I am interested in Auto-Focus issue in DM368.

In page 123 of sprs668c.pdf, there is the following declaration: “DM368 does not support the Hardware 3A statistics collection module (H3A).”,So I am confused by what you mentioned, "Both DM365 and DM368 support AF".  I want to know how DM368 supports AF? Hardware of software? Can TI provide it if it is supported by software?

    Thanks
