How to support samba service for DM8168

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DM3730

What I use is DM8168, the EZSDK is ti-ezsdk_dm816x-evm_5_01_01_80, the linux kernel is linux/i386 2.6.37 Kernel Configuration.

When I make the menuconfig I found there is--> CIFS support(advanced network filesystem, SMBFS successor),But when I select it

as the module and recompiled the filesystem, smb service still was still not supported.

So what can I do to enable the samba service.

I have tried the transplant samba to the board. But I'm not familar with the setting args when compiling it.

Please help.

Thanks.

  • Hi,

Any news on this topic? I need to share files from the board to windows, and have enabled CIFS support in kernel, but then what? I am using DM3730, but I guess the setup is the same anyway...

  • DM816x:
Normally if it is not enabled within menuconfig then there is no support or it is not tested Out of Box (OoB). You could try the latest release and see if there is support. I would also recommend looking into an Angstrom Distribution build/release and see if you can us the release to add Samba support to your environment.

    DM3730:
I would also look into a Angstrom Distribution release. There is a on-line builder that has DM3730 build options. I believe you can enable Samba package during the download process. You might be able to install Samba using -- opkg install samba -- Not tried this but you could give it a try.
