AIS Format Support

I can't find anything on the Primary Bootloader in C6455, C6457 support of AIS format.  Has this format been discarded since C6424?   Is there a new format that was created for the primary bootloader to read from start of flash (EMIF mode)?    Is there a "fastest" method?

  • Some boot modes for some of our DSPs and other processors use AIS. Some do not. All devices support methods with all boot modes that will allow the device to be initialized and loaded and started. AIS is one format used in many of our devices, but not in all of them.

For the C645x devices, the bootloader document describes the various boot modes that are available and the options for those as well as the format required for each boot mode / option.

"Fastest method" is a subject for debate. Your application's criteria for boot is an important part of answering that question. Also, your definition of "fastest".

By one definition, EMIFA boot is the fastest because the DSP just starts running from Flash and there is no other intervening bootloader required to copy code to RAM.

By another definition, SRIO boot would be fastest because it is the highest speed interface.

    Hope this helps.
