DM8168/67 Questions

If we look at the DM8168/67 and the decode capabilities we see a claim of 32 MP D1 MPEG2 decode or 32 SP D1 MPEG4 or 32 HP H.264 decodes simultaneously.

So on the input side we have 32 MPEG transport streams which we can get into the part over PCIe. How can one get the video out - say to an FPGA for further processing?

There are a few different ways you can export the data.

You could use the Ethernet interface and either connect your FPGA to emulate an RGMII interface, or actually use the serialized Ethernet output from a phy.

You could use GPMC.

You could use the video out interface (by packing your data into what appears as a frame buffer).

All these would require you to packetize your data into a form so that your FPGA can correctly extract the streams, but it should be fairly simple.

Hi Steve,

If we are decoding and sending the raw video frames from DM816x to the FPGA for 32 channels for further processing, what data rate is required per stream? Will the Ethernet phy, GPMC, or video out have the bandwidth to support all 32 uncompressed streams?
