GbE Support on AM335x kits

Hello,

Do either of these kits support GbE?

I see that the AM335x processor support GbE, but the Beaglebone only has a 10/100 PHY.

I do not see the user's guide or information on these kits online either. The one has a link titled "user's guide", but the link is actually to the errata:

Block diagrams for both kits show the TLK110 in the block diagram and this PHY is only 10/100.

Any solutions for GbE for evaluation?

Paul,

you are correct. There are only TLK110 phys on ICE and IDK. They are 10/100 only and that is what we need for most of the real-time ethernet protocols.

I can't comment on that one as I am not involved with next hardware developments outside industrial automation space.

The AM335x Evaluation Module (General Purpose) support GigE.

The Wiki page description shows the GbE support:

However, the product part number and home page is here, but the description on this page is incorrect with respect to the Ethernet (it only shows 10/100):

Looking at the markings on the device from the EVM itself, it is an AR8031 which supports 10/100/1000.

These are my results for running iperf on the EVM :-

root@am335x-evm:~# iperf -c daedsw

During this, top shows the CPU is maxed out :-

Mem: 251196K used, 2756K free, 0K shrd, 4488K buff, 220296K cached
CPU:   0% usr 51% sys   0% nic   0% idle   0% io   0% irq 47% sirq
Load average: 0.08 0.05 0.05 2/78 2399
PID PPID USER     STAT   VSZ %MEM %CPU COMMAND
2397 2317 root     S    19100   8% 99% iperf -c daedsw

So the ethernet is running at GB speeds although the CPU isn't powerful enough to run at the theoretical 112 MB/s but still achieves a pretty respectable 31MB/s.

NB The CPU has to generate the TCP headers but I only saw a marginal improvement when using UDP transfers.
