Emulator Connection on Custom C6678 Board

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6678

Hi,

I am currently working on a design using the TMS320C6678 DSP. We have designed our board to support the embedded Blackhawk XDS560v2 emulator that ships with the TMDXEVM6678LE and we are not able to communicate with the DSP through the emulator.

There are three LEDs that are flashing at the same time (D1, D2, D3) on the emulator when it is connected to our board and the emulator is not detected by the PC. I have not been able to find much documentation regarding the embedded emulator. If anyone could provide any suggestions as to what might be wrong I would appreciate it.

Please let me know what other information that I can provide in order to solve this problem.

Thanks,

Josh King

  • The embedded Blackhawk XDS560v2 can only be used with the C6678 EVM card and will not operate on any other platform.  You will have to purchase a separate XDS560 for emulation on your target platform.

  • Greetings,

The embedded BH XDS560V2 should work on any non EVM design so long that the 60 pin connection is correct and the 5.0 V supply provided by the custom hardware is adequate.  I believe the emulator is running under Linux and hence it take a bit of time to power up and make USB registration.

A while back I seen some details on the Internet about the light show the mezzanine emulator put on when starting.

    Good Luck,

    Sam

  • The embedded BH XDS560V2 daughtercard will not work on a non-EVM design.  This card is not sold as a separate product and is only available paired with TI EVMs.  The XDS560V2 is not intended to be removed from the EVM and if the card is removed and place on a different board it will not operate.  In addition damage caused during the removal or insertion of XDS560V2 will not be repaired under the warrenty agreement.  TI will be releasing a new emulator in the 4th quarter of 2012 that is the same form factor and is expected to operate with customer designs.

  • Did you also connect mezzanine's power connector?
I got the same problem. Our custom board also use mezzanine card, and mezzanine card’s led D1, D2, D3 just kept flashing.
I think the problem is with connector’s XDS560_IL pin. On EVM board, oscillograph wave shows it is not always a simple ‘0’ or ‘1’ logic.
Also, if power connecter was connected to EVM and 60-pin JTAG was connected to our custom board, I managed to debug custom board using CCSv5.
