I could not set my nfs(network file system) with am3517

Hi everyone,

I am trying to build a network file system with my am3517 based TAM3517 board.

i have set my bootargs like;

setenv bootargs console=ttyO0,115200n8 noinitrd rw ${video_mode}
ip=192.168.2.4:192.168.2.5:192.168.2.5:255.255.255.0:eth1:off
root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=192.168.2.5:/home/developer/workdir/NFS,wsize=8096,rsize=8096 nolock
mem=256M rootdelay=3

and i get this error;

VFS: Cannot open root device "nfs" or unknown-block(0,255)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions:
.
.
.
(it shows some partitions like sd-card)
.
.
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs unknown-block(0,255)

What am i missing ?

Thanks in advance,
  • Hi Hakan,

    Are you sure, your NFS is up and running? And path is also proper (case sensitive)

    Set these boot args and try? (static ip)

    setenv bootargs 'mem=128M console=ttyO0,115200n8 noinitrd rw root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=192.168.2.5:/home/developer/workdir/nfs,nolock ip=dhcp'

    Modify the bootcmd accordingly (can you provide the boot log as well?)

    Regards

  • i am sure that the path is correct. I try to connect(mount) my filsesystem with another computer and it works but i cannot get this work on my board.

  • Hi Hakan,

    Bootargs what you are setting and kernel taking args are different

    Kernel command line: console=ttyO0,115200n8 omapdss.def_disp=lcd omapfb.vram=0:4M,1:4M,2:4M vram=12M tnlcd.tnlcd_data=33260,800,210,46,1,480,22,23,1,24,32 om7

    This line should be same as your setting bootargs, what value is to ${video_mode} variable?

    Use these arguments

    setenv bootargs 'mem=128M console=ttyO0,115200n8 noinitrd rw root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=192.168.2.5:/home/developer/workdir/nfs,nolock ip=dhcp'

    setenv bootcmd 'dhcp; tftp 0x82000000 uImage; bootm 0x82000000'

    setenv serverip <tftp server ip>

  • Hi Anil,

    here is my ${video_mode} variable

    video_mode=omapdss.def_disp=lcd omapfb.vram=0:4M,1:4M,2:4M vram=12M tnlcd.tnlcd_data=33260,800,210,46,1,480,22,23,1,24,32 omap_vout.vid1_static_vrfb_alloc=y

    i use your arguments but unfortunately the result is the same, here is the bootlog

    I think i have a problem with NFS, too
  • Hi Hakan,

    Then that problem you are getting because NFS server is not running. Once you setup the NFS server then you can able to boot the board.

    Follow the steps in the same wiki mentioned in my last post, for setting up the NFS server.
