TMS320C6657/5 EMFI and UPP

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6657

I have a customer asking the following question for the TMS320C6657/5.

I have couple of questions about the UPP and EMIF16.

1. I understand that the UPP and EMIF16 functions are sharing same set of pins.

We are planning on using the two ports in UPP to transfer images and EMIF16 to transfer other data such

as programming IO registers inside the FPGA. Can the UPP and EMIF16 functions be switched back and forth

by setting and resetting a bit inside a programmable register? And, is there a recover time?

  • Hi Hector,

The part wasn't really designed to be dynamically switched back and forth between these modes.  I'll do some research and see if it's as simple as setting a bit but I'm guessing you'll have to do some additional configuration each time you switch.  There are a number of interfaces available that would allow communications with the FPGA.  Would they consider using SPI for their IO register interface?  That wouldn't add many pins and would simplify their logic design.

  • Hi Bill,

I am wondering if you were able to find more information on this?
Is it an option to toggle between UPP and EMIF16 at run time?
What are the careabout to do this?
Goal is to have one interface (UPP) to an ASIC and an other interface to an FPGA (EMIF16).

    Thanks and best regards,

    Anthony
