TMDSEVM6678LE: USB COM DRIVER for Ubuntu

Hi, I am a newbie for DSP. I bought a TMDSEVM6678LE today. And I found there is no driver of mini USB for linux (ubuntu). I do not know how to deal with this problem. And I found that I got a serial port cable in the box besides mini USB cable. However, I do not know how to use this serial port cable.  I can not find any driver for this serial port cable, too.

According to your quick start guide, I should install the USB driver firstly.

Please help me.

  • Hi, Li,

I am not sure if we are looking at the same c6678LE Quick Start Guide. Here are what the mini USB cable is for and differences from your info:

    1) The page 2 of the Quick Start Guide says the USB cable is for on-board JTAG emulation (xds100 v1)

    2) In the diagram 2 showning USB connection, it says "Connect the USB mini-B cable to USB1 plug for on board embedded emulation and serial console port, as shown in figure (For use with CCS debugger only)

    3) The serial cable can be plugged in to on-board RS-232 serial port  for the serial console on your host. You can change the jumpers at COM SEL1 to chose either using serial or USB port.

    4) I don't think Ubuntu linux distribution is supported on c6678LE. However, you can follow the linux-c6x Software Release Notes and User's Guide in linux-c6x.org wiki page to build the linux kernel and download it to the c6678.

If you don't have other questions, I appreciate that you mark this thread closed. Thanks!

  • Hi Rex,

    Thanks for your reply.

According to your explanations I think TI must delivered me a wrong Quick Start Guide.  My board is C6678LE but the Quick Start instruction is for C6678L. So can I get  a right Quick Start instruction for my board? Meanwhile, the DVD disk TI provided is also for C6678L and not for my C6678LE. So is there any difference about their driver? What should I to do?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi, Li,

The E stands for Emulator. That means the EVM has an emulator mezzanine on it. The quick start guide applies to both L and LE. If you want, you can access all documents from http://www.advantech.com/Support/TI-EVM/6678le_sd.aspx. For linux kernel release on TI c6x EVM, please go to linux-c6x.org wiki page.
