booting from spi flash

Hi ,

I am working on c5515 DSP processor. I am using SPI flash for booting. It is taking more time to boot, that's giving problem to me. I have some questions please consider me.

-> Is there any process to improve flash speed during booting?.

-> I heard that there is a concept of secondary booting, If it is there how to implement that?

-> I am using Processor one of the gpio before booting  process finish. i want  high state from gpio when process gets RESET. Is there any GPIO which is in default high state?

Please send me reply as early as possible.

Thanks & Regards

  • The next generation device supports SPI boot all the way to 10 MHz. C5515 is fix with 500kHz. Refer to Boot Sequence section in data manual.

We plan to create an apps note for "Boot from Off-chip Memory" in the future.

Refer to Pin Behavior at Reset section for pin state after reset.

    Regards.

  •  Hi steve,

Thanks for the reply. I wanted to boot some small amount of code as early as possible. I heard that there is a concept of secondary booting, if it is that case my problem will solve. If you have any information on secondary booting, please let me know.

  • Hi,

I do not think there is a secondary boot loader for C5515 with us. Also not sure any pin can keep on right after power up. Can you please check out the boot sequence from data sheet.  I see there is some option for DSP internal register configuration . Can you explore that please and let us know if that resolve?

What is the maximum boot delay you can tolerate in this case?  I would also suggest any on board option too. Latif can help review the power solution for this. Perhaps a rail can drive the load switch?? Please let us know.

    Best Regards
