c5535 audio corruption when using i2c

To all,

I am having trouble establishing proper i2c communication between my ezdsp c5535 and a peripheral mTouch resistive touch pad.  The mTouch is used to gather sensor data for adjusting parameters of filters on the ezdsp.  The two processes work fine separately but when integrated together, the audio signal is corrupted.  The problem is we need to read data from our peripheral device, while reading sound data.  Is there any reason why communicating via i2c with another device would interrupt the i2s2 communication of the audio signal to the AIC3204?

 Thanks in advance,

Mike
