TVP5158 ports and formatter questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVP5158

Hello:

On the TVP5158, there is one decoder for each input.  Are the decoders dedicated to the input port, or can any channel go to any of the decoders internally?  If any of the channels could go to any decoder, it is conceivable that you could use two output streams and select different video channels by swapping internally.  From what I could tell on the datasheet, however, it looks like they are dedicated to one specific channel only.

Also, is there any more info regarding the output formatter not being line locked and what effects this would have?  I may have missed it, but did not see anything in the datasheet that directly referenced this.

Thanks again!

Paul

  • Yes, there is one video decoder core dedicated to each input.  However, the TVP5158 provides some flexibility in regards to which output is used by each video decoder channel.  Please refer to the datasheet for additional information.

Each video decoder core outputs a line-locked clock internally.  The output formatter uses internal FIFOs to convert from a line-locked clock to a fixed-frequency clock at the final output.  The effect of this is that the duration of horizontal blanking (measured in clock cycles) may vary from line to line.
