AM3894 Hardware Questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3894

TI Team,

I have several questions related to hardware support on the AM3894 Sitara MPU.

  • Does the AM3894 Flash Support include eMMC. I would prefer using eMMC because of the larger density.
  • If so, any recommendations on how to best wire this interface?
  • How do I deal with loading?
  • What chip-selects should I use?
  • Does the AM3894 support USB OTG? The datasheet says yes, but the verbiage is confusing
  • Even though the controllers are OTG controllers, OTG features are not supported by any of the ports. Each port has the support for a dual-role feature allowing for additional versatility enabling operation capability as a host or peripheral. Both ports have identical capabilities and operate.independent of each other.
  • If so, how do I configure the MPU as a host?
  • A general guideline on how to connect the McBSP
  • I have six data outputs that I plan to use in audio mode
  • What is the maximum speed of the McBSP
  • Can the video out and video inputs be configured deferentially. The datasheet is not clear on this one.
  • General Clocking
  • I'm using a PLX PCIe 24 lane switch. The AM3894 connects to two lanes, 8 lanes go to a PCIe cable connector, and 8 down stream lanes go to an Altera FPGA pCIe  input. Now in the AM3894 mode of operation, I feed 100MHz to AM3894 and also to PLX PCIe switch and a 3rd clock to FPGA's PCIe input. However, when we switch to PCIe from cable input with AM3894 disabled, I am not sure how I should feed the clock to the PLX switch and also to the FPGA. My qeustions is this: Can I use the same clock that I feed to AM3894, PLX switch, and FPGA as the clock is only a reference used by the PLL, or do I need to add a mux and buffers and use the clock from the PCIe cable connector in the EXT PCIe mode of operation - I dont have the Cable connector specs so noyt sure if there is a 100MHz diff clock there?
