Accessing Hardware timer from user application

Hi,

 

As per my application i have to user hardware timer to count the time lapsed. platform is Linux and AM3359.

 

I have found there is a dmtimer in platform-omap folder. I am having trouble in accessing the same.

 

Can you suggest me how to go ahead with my need to get timer indications to application? Have to use hardware timer or any other way to meet this need.
