initramfs size limitation and alternatives to increase it.

Hello,

   I am Working on Ti8148 evm board, which has 1GB or RAM , I am facing some issues on when initramfs is of large size ie; if it is >16M(cpio.gz) image, The kernel hangs after Uncompressing Linux... done, booting the kernel.

Any suggestion on this or any limitation of initramfs size limitation.
