TI8148 kernel directory

Hi Sir :

Could anybody tells me what is the difference between "TI814X-LINUX-PSP-04.01.00.06" and "TI81XX-LINUX-PSP-04.04.00.01"?

I was confused about the content in these two directories.

Best regards,

Marcus

  • Judging from the Release Notes, SW Manifest and Use Guide for each release, the later version adds docs and binaries for ti816x and ti813x. Both versions have the same versions of source:

    Linux kernel 2.6.37 h=2b3ea6aa16956e15f1ba8e7b70898aaacbec2237
    U-Boot 2010-06

From what I've seen, versions with the same major number (in your care 04.xx) ,are backwards compatible. Each version adds processor support to previously supported processors. The version description is a bit misleading as it only mentions the processor that was added. That's my guess. TI guys will correct me.

Maybe a better question to ask: Can the latest Linux PSP - 04.06.00.07 be compiled for your processor TI8148? That version includes binaries only for the AM335x and has Linux 3.2.

  • Dear Norman :

    I appreciate your quickly reply!

According your description, can I say "TI814X-LINUX-PSP-04.01.00.06" only supports TI8148 and "TI81XX-LINUX-PSP-04.04.00.01" supports TI813x,TI814x and TI816x?

I have compared these two versions and there are many #define TI813x and TI816x in "TI81XX-LINUX-PSP-04.04.00.01".

Actually, my question is which version I should use?

I think TI guys will not to maintain two versions of TI8148.

Finally, I want to say thanks again.

    Best regards,

    Marcus

  • Marcus,

04.04.00.01 is a combined release for TI816x, 814x and 813x. We recommend you to use this release only for any of the three platforms that i mentioned.

04.01.00.06 was an older release for TI 814x only. As this is older release, we would not want the customers to be using this release and move to the newer release.

    Anshuman
