PRU Pass-through for MII/RMII

simple question, potentially painful answer...

How difficult would it be to implement a MII/RMII passthrough within the PRU, so that all ethernet frames are bounced directly into the Cortex-A8 without passing through the MAC?

Is there any examples/suggestions on how to implement this?

I know, it's a very wierd requirement , and I know it'll kill real-time performance!

Hi All,

I2m currently developing our linux on my am335x hardware. I want to implement dp83848 phy with rmii interface to the bord. I set pinmux of the ethernet interface rmii, is ther anything else to do?

Hi Maneesh,

for a long time I was looking for a simple solution to let our boards designed for EtherCAT communicate via standard TCP/IP. Can you give me some advice how to achieve this?

Hello Frank,

I try to accomplish, what Mathew Maher asked for in the initial question of this thread. I would like to process every Ethernet frame, which the PRUSS receive, by the A8. And of course, I want to answer these frames by the A8, too. Perhaps I misunderstood Mathews question.

Due to pin muxing restrictions, the Ethernet PHYs on our boards have to be connected to the PRUSS for EtherCAT. EtherCAT is the main communication system to be used by our boards. But beside this, we would like to do TCP/IP communication in special situations (like initial board testing). We talked about this during a meeting last year. TI provided us with a quite complicated solution. So my hope was, the solution mentioned by Maneesh would be simpler.
