Blaze Line in Microphone

Hi,

I am trying to record the input audio (from audio jack) using the TI's recorder application. So far I could not record any audio input. I was wondering if this audio input is functional on blaze platform. If yes, I think problem should be the type of cable I am using then, right? Does anyone know what is the exact cable that I need to use?

Cheers,

Alireza

  • Hi Alireza,

Could you please let us know which release you are using on blaze platform for recording the input audio using the TI's recorder application?

Did you check if the audio is getting recorded during Video Recording using Camera application?

    Thanks & Best Regards,

    Venkat

  • Hi Venkat,

Thank you for your reply. I did use three different builds:

    1- http://www.omappedia.org/wiki/L27.IS.2.P2_OMAP4_Icecream_Sandwich_Release_Notes

    2- http://www.omappedia.org/wiki/4AI.1.4-P1_OMAP4_Icecream_Sandwich_Release_Notes

    3- http://www.omappedia.org/wiki/4AI.1.5_OMAP4_Icecream_Sandwich_Release_Notes

and it did not work on any of them. One thing that I would like to clarify is that recording would work if I use the builtin mic. It does not work if I connect the microphone to the Audio/Video jack.

One more thing is that. If I do not plug the (audio cable) connector completely I am able to record for 3 seconds and after that I can not record anything. It seems like that it is a functionality of internal circuity.

I think all I am asking is that can I connect a normal headset to Audio jack on blaze platform and expect to be able to record and here audio simultaneously? Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

    Regards,

    Alireza

  • Hi Alireza,

Please refer to the post at http://e2e.ti.com/support/omap/f/849/p/187834/677107.aspx#677107 for further guidance on how to enable analog microphone for OMAP4.

You can also refer to the following link for further information on Audio Driver Architecture for OMAP4 and its features at http://www.omappedia.org/wiki/ Audio _Drive_Arch

It looks to me that the Line In should be supported but would require appropriate changes to relevant registers as mentioned in the post above.

    Thanks & Best Regards,

    Venkat

  • Hi Venkat,

Please correct me if I am missing something. I think the post you referred me to is proposing to make kernel changes in order to make analog mic work, right? This is actually what I am trying to avoid. I need to write an android app which fetches audio input from analog mic and is runnable on blaze platform. If I have to make the kernel level changes then I need to come up with my own specialized android build not just an app. Am I correct?

Is there any official android release from TI which actually resolves this issue? Is it something that will be fixed in coming releases?

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Alireza

  • Hi Alireza,

Your understanding is correct. In order to support it, you have to modify the kernel and use the updated image of kernel with the changes.

I am not aware of any official release which addresses this issue but will let you know about it if I can find any information about this.

    Thanks & Best Regards,

    Venkat
