Using AM1707 for POS (Point Of Sale) project

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM1707

Dear,

I've just finished the main block diagram of POS project that using TI's part AM1707. Could you please take time to review and please focus on some functions below:

  1. Board will run with Linux OS.
  2. Is AM1707 proper for Point of Sale application?
  3. Can AM1707 boot directly from NAND flash NAND01GW3B2C? Is there any problem with NAND size?
  4. SDRAM: with all these functions, how much RAM size is enough for Linux OS?
  5. Wifi Module: can we integrate the Linux WLAN drivers, BlueZ Bluetooth stack on processor AM1707?

Thanks you for your supporting.
Regards

Tung

  • Tung,

    1. Is AM1707 proper for Point of Sale application?

TI> AM17x has no security, i.e. no secure boot or crypto accelerator. Also i do not see external security controller on block diagram, how are you planning to use AM17x for POS and pass PCI certification ?

Please have a look at POS reference design kit from TI

  • Hi Amrit,

Thanks you very much for your comment. I'd like to let you know the function as below:

    1. This product sounds like a Point Of Sale (POS) and are placed in hotel for customers to order stuffs and for waiter/waitress to take orders, etc...
    2. No need secure boot or crypto accelerator, NFC and PCI.
    3. The customer can order stuff by webpage server (through Wifi) or LCD touch screen panel.

With these basic functions, I think AM1707 is suitable processor once.

Some of my concerns are AM1707 can support Linux driver for Wifi module WL1271-TiWi or NOT; and how much SDRAM & NAND flash size?

    Thanks

For above application i would recommend AM335x cortex-A8 device for more performance and system integration than AM17x .  Also AM335x SDK has most of drivers you are looking for.
