We are trying to determine if the C5535 I2S interface always has a 2-4 bytes of preamble. We are seeing sometimes values and sometimes all zeros for the pre-amble before the actual data..Is this a normal?

Hi Charles,
See Advisory 2.0.4 in the C5535 Silicon Errata for a summary of I2S data delays - delay is dependent on FSDIV, Pack and Word length values in the I2S Control Register.
