DVSDK 4.x is only supported on Ubuntu 10.04. The software team has used Ubunutu as the baseline to maximize compatibility and minimize errors from those using alternate environments. This said, you can still go through with trying to use a different Linux OS. There are many community members that have utilized OS's other than Ubunutu for the DVSDK. During installation, you can use "--forceHost" on the installer executable to tell it to ignore the check on Ubuntu 10.04. Some of the setup.sh scripts may fail, so you may have to modify/remove these for your flavour of Linux.
You also have the option of using a virtual box or VMware to run Ubuntu 10.04 on your machine so that all the DVSDK scripts work as expected.
