  • select VPSS as module in make menuconfig,  follow the steps given in link: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/TI81XX_VPSS_Video_Driver_User_Guide

  • Manoj,

Thanks for the quick reply. VPSS has been selected in make menuconfig. Attaching the def config file ti8148_evm_config (DEFAULT_LINUXKERNEL_CONFIG=ti8148_evm_defconfig)

I also changed load_hd_firmware.sh as(had read this in some other post on this forum):

    modprobe vpss sbufaddr=0xBFB00000 mode=hdmi:1080p-60 i2c_mode=1

    to
     insmod /lib/modules/2.6.37/kernel/drivers/video/ti81xx/vpss/vpss.ko sbufaddr=0xBFB00000 mode=hdmi:1080p-60 i2c_mode=1

  • Hi,

You are hitting a null pointer exception. This is really to do with your changes. You will have to do little debugging and figure it out exact function and line where you are getting this exception.

    Regards,

    Hardik Shah

  • Hardik Shah,

Am looking into it, will update as soon as I find out.

    -Pallavi

  • Hello Hardik,

    Here are my findings..

    1. Am able to boot linux, if VPSS module is disabled in auto boot mode.

    2. Loading the HDVICP2 and VPSS firmware (using prebuilt  dm814x_hdvicp.xem3, dm814x_hdvpss, mm_dm81xxbm.bin) is ok. Running sys_top after this, shows that the both the co-processors are up.

    3.  Now, at this point if vpss module is inserted as follows

       a)  [modprobe  vpss ], without sbufaddr,  this throws a segmentation fault  at vps_sbuf_init. So assuming that sbuf address should be passed. Note, after this, sys_top indicates that HDVICP2 and HDVPSS are running.

b)[modprobe vpss sbufaddr=0xB3D00000 mode=hdmi:1080p-60 i2c_mode=1] , this throws a segmentation fault and returns to the linux prompt. Pasting the log below:

    modprobe -v vpss sbufaddr=0xb3d00000 mode=hdmi:1080p-60 i2c_mode=1
    insmod /lib/modules/2.6.37/kernel/drivers/video/ti81xx/vpss/vpss.ko sbufaddr=0xb3d00000 mode=hdmi:1080p-60 i2c_mode=1

Using EZSDK  5.04.00_11,  PSP 04.04.00.01, syslink 2_10_03_20.  The custom board has 2GB DDR and the required changes have been done to the source files. The DMM MAP 0 register is programmed for 2GB with no interleaving.

is it ok to use the 1GB memory map file mm_dm81xxbm.bin  to load the HDVICP2 and HDVPSS firmware(will be restricting to 1GB address space access for now)? If so then what are the correct options for notifyk.vpssm3_sva and sbufaddr? If  the bin file is not the correct one to use, please indicate the source where it can be got, does it need an NDA?

  • Hi,

I think you have changed memroy map for 2GB board. Can you try with 1GB memory map and make sure everything works as expected. For 2GB memory map you code is crashing in vps_system_init+0x0/0x274 [vpss] function. Can you please put prints in this function after every line of code and see what is the last print where code crashes. You can put print as "printk ("%s %d\n", __func__, __LINE__);" and see which is the last print.

  • Hi,

try to delete 'ti814x_vpss_init' and 'ti814x_hdmi_init' calls from "arch/arm/mach-omap2/board-ti8148evm.c".

  • Hi,

This wont work as HDVPSS will become non-functional after deleting these calls.

  • Oscar Penelo,

yes. Looks like version mismatch of modules I had installed.  I freshly installed ezsdk 5.03..01.15 and made the required changes for the custom board and it worked :) Now am trying to get WINCE 7 up on the same board.
