OMAP PoP Package f-vpp pin

I am finishing up a schematic using the AM3703CBP PoP package.  The pin f-vpp (ball "pop_ac11_ah13") has the description "Flash vpp supply" in Table 2-28 of the Data Manual (SPRS616F), with no explanation as to what it is set to.  I am not aware of any other place in the document that this pin is mentioned.

On the Mistral EVM schematic, it is left unconnected (the CBB package is used).  In the Schematic Checklist for the AM37x, it mentions "VPP: should be left unconnected for production".

Can someone explain the use of this pin and what it should be tied to, if anything?

Thanks in advance,

Bob

  • The f-vpp (signal pop_ac11_ah13) on the AM3703CBP PoP package is a feed-through signal.  This means is literally is a "wire", or connection, from the bottom ball (ie. AH13) to the top pad (ie. AC11) and is provided to the memory device in the PoP package.

Therefore, the needs of the memory device is something you will need to get from your memory vendor.  If the memory device you intend to use has a combo DRAM + Flash, then it is likely you will need to treat this pin a certain way.  But that treatment is based on what the memory device needs.

  • Thanks, Brandon.  The Micron MCP device I am contemplating shows a NC on that particular ball.  I'll put a 0 Ohm resistor to a pad as a backup, but it looks like it has no functionality otherwise.

I'm still not sure what "Flash vpp supply" means, but since it's a JEDEC nomenclature, I could hunt down the standard.

    Regards,
