DM8127IPNC: problem running ipnc_rdk_mcfw.out stand alone

I am trying to run the mcfw without system_server etc. RDK version is 2.8

What I have changed:
1. in /etc/init.d/finish.sh, replaced call of system_server with ipnc_rdk_mcfw.out
2. in /opt/ipnc/init.sh added cmemk after loading syslink
3. running ubuntu11.10 armel instead of Arago rootfs
4. uboot/kernel/rootfs are all in the SD card

The result:
1. I see live video on the monitor, except that the color is way off(looks like negative) and constantly changing in dramatic fashion. I suspect the AEWB is working properly.
2. I don't see the periodic print on the console.

  • Obviously TI guys are not interested in this topic. I will continue documenting my struggle with this problem anyway, hopefully it will be useful to some other people.

    Somehow the /opt/ipnc/init.sh did not executed completely. remote_debug_client.out was not running when I started ipnc_mcfw_main.out.
    So I tried manually run the remote_debug_client.out, then ipnc_mcfw_main.out, the output looks more "normal" now, but still no video on monitor, or it's completely black.
    BTW: Ipc_startcallback status [0x097d2000] is not really harmful, since I found the same return code in original demo output.
    on the other hand, the latency column from periodic output looks too large.

    Sorry for the delay in this response. 

    I suppose you are using the 2.8 release version on DM8127 IPNC. Are you trying the Full feature mode or the low power mode?

    From the last log it seems that streaming is started, were you able to open up the streams on internet explorer or using VLC?

  • After spending time on bringing up our custom circuit board, now I am back on this.

    I have just migrated to RDK3.0, hoping that would make some difference, but it's pretty much the same.

    1. Original MLO, uboot.bin, uImage, /opt/ipnc directory from RDK3.0 copied to sd card

    2. modified /etc/init.d/finish.sh so that system_server is not started automatically.

    When /opt/ipnc/init.sh runs,everything looks ok

  • I don't have video streaming server started, that's the purpose to get rid of other functions I don't need.

    The HDMI monitor picked up the presence of signal, but the screen is totally black. I am using the full feature mode.

    If I am running only the ipnc_rdk_mcfw.out, how does the AEWB work? I will use TI library

  • Finally I have made some progress.

    After recompiling mcfw, I only copied the /opt/ipnc/bin and /opt/ipnc/firmware directory. I just found out that I need to copy the files in dcc as well. Now I see live video on HDMI, although AE doesn't see working, it doesn't adjust to light change at all. I am using TI2A.

  • Update: running RDK3.0 ipnc_rdk_main.out without system_server etc. on Appro DM8127 IPNC camera.

    Capture and display sample behaves strangely. The live video on HDMI monitor appears very sluggish and jittery. If you aim the camera at an analog clock, you will see the arms skipping forward, and sometimes skipping back for a couple of seconds!

    This is the whole console output, note the m3vpss reports 19fps instead of 60, and cpu load 100%

    The dcc bin file contains the tuned parameters for ISP for the given sensor; this file is used for initializing the ISP with tuned parameters for image quality.

    Which sensor are you using in the IPNC?

    Can you check APPRO 2A; APPRO 2A does not depend on dcc file.

  • The problem seems to be with missing interrupts due to high ARM / M3 load. Are you running the IPNC RDK release as is or were some changes made on the default software release?

  • I made no changes to the MCFW. I only changed the way how it's launched.

    1. It's configured as capture and display mode in rules.make, recompiled.

    2. After kernel boots up, /opt/ipnc/init.sh is called. The only change in that script is that cmemk.ko is inserted because it used to be done in system_server, which is no longer running.

    3.Then this command is ran:

    ./bin/ipnc_rdk_mcfw.out  TRISTREAM TI2A AEWB

  • If I run APPRO2A, I only see gray screen, no periodic updates on console.

    If I don't specify the vendor at all, sudo ./bin/ipnc_rdk_mcfw.out TRISTREAM AEWB &

    video is still jittery, but I see FPS increased to >100, I am not sure it's the way it's supposed to be :

  • I gave another try on RDK2.8. After recompiling mcfw, the video looks normal now.
